Key Information for Your Child's Stay

Check IDs

check IDs

Many people will care for your child (doctors, nurses, aides), and these same people will care for many patients. To prevent errors in your child’s care:

  • Ask to see the ID of everyone who comes into the room, so you know the name and job of the person caring for your child. If you do not see an ID, contact the nurse immediately.
  • Speak up if hospital staff does not check your child’s ID band or safety-alert stickers. Any time staff enters the room to give medicine, transport your child, or perform procedures or treatments, they should check for your child’s name and birth date, as well as any risk factors or special medical orders.

This may seem repetitive at times, but it helps ensure your child receives the correct care.

 Name Check

Always double check your child’s name with staff to avoid errors.
